MIMAR is providing architectural, engineering and interior design services to provide a more comfortable environment for our veterans, their families and caregivers by improving the function and upgrading equipment, furniture and finishes of the 9,000 SF Canteen in the Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center.

The Washington DC VA Medical Center, located within sight of the Nation’s Capital has 175 acute care beds, 30 Psychosocial Residential Rehabilitation Treatment beds, and a 20-suite Fisher House. Also, the Medical Center is home to an adjacent 120-bed Community Living Center, all rely on the Patriots Café efficiency. The New Patriots Café offers a Soothing, fresh and comfortable environment, with new Energy Efficient equipment, State-of-the-art heating and air conditioning system, and expanded dining options with over 120 Seats. From cooked-to-order daily specials to an attractive space enhanced by local photography and a custom floor with the map of Washington D.C. 


This kitchen and dining space has it all.  Everything you’d want from a hospital and exactly everything you get at Patriots Café with its front-of-house server, bistro, five serving stations, salad bars and grab - n - go. Choose from convenience items to made-to-order specialties, all featuring fresh ingredients. The patriots Café serves the campus population’s desires and needs: the ability to easily balance delicious food, healthy options, dietary restrictions, and convenience. The Medical center will be operational during construction work and the A/E shall propose a Phasing/Safety/ Infection Control Plan.


MIMAR was responsible for participate in project planning meetings, communicate with VA personnel, conduct site visits, verify existing conditions, and coordinate all the requirements so that the final documents will be in accordance with current The Joint Commission (TJC) Standards, AIA Design Guidelines for Design and Construction of Health Care Facilities, VA Standards/Guidelines, submission review comments, and industry standard practices.
