The $200 million-plus development includes office, hotel, residential and retail space consisting of six public levels, three hi-rise structures, and a multi-level parking facility to accommodate 500 buses and 3000 cars.

2010-2015

Mimar partnered with Parsons Brinckerhoff and Zimmer Gunsul Frasca Partnership, Washington, D.C. based architecture and planning firms, for the design and planning of the Silver Spring Transit Center development. This project was coordinated through five separate government agencies and private developers. The $200 million-plus development includes office, hotel, residential and retail space consisting of six public levels, three hi-rise structures, and a multi-level parking facility to accommodate 500 buses and 3000 cars.

Mimar provided architectural design services which included preliminary space planning for the office areas, and design and construction documentation for the garage, ticketing kiosks, public concourses, and vertical circulation including escalators, stairs, and elevators. Services also included construction documents review for quality assurance, coordination, constructability and compliance with all applicable codes, and wrote the project manual sections, as well.

The commercial and residential buildings were built in tiers over and around the transit center. The hotel will have about 200 rooms; there will be between 200,000 and 250,000 square feet of office space over the transit center and 250-265 units in the apartment building, to be located near Ramsey Avenue. Retail space will be located at the lower levels.

Mimar was involved in schematic phase for design of entire complex and configuration of space planning in office towers. Mimar responsibilities included design and construction documents for ticketing offices, public concourses and vertical circulation. Mimar also provided construction documents review for completeness, coordination, constructability and compliance with all applicable codes.

Construction Cost: $200M
