To continue contending with nearby airports, Ronald Reagan Washington
National Airport and Dulles International Airport, BWI installed an in-airport
attraction to make the wait more pleasant for its travelers. The observation
gallery was designed by MIMAR with soundproof glazing in a panoramic view
to beautifully showcase the arrivals and departures of each plane. Observers
can view sights with stationed tower viewers or check out aviation exhibits
showcasing sections of past airplanes.
Architectural and Interior Design of a 12,300 square foot observation lounge completed by Mimar Architects, Inc. Project Manager while with another firm. The design features an exhibition area, featuring a 3,000 square foot glass wall and roof system as well as a glass stairway. Additional programmatic amenities include two cafes, a Smithsonian gift shop, a children’s play area and various aviation exhibits coordinated by the Smithsonian Institution.
