Under an on-call design services contact with MAA, as sub to AECOM (formerly URS), Mimar is providing architectural, engineering and signage design services to support Phase II, III, and IV design services for the design and construction of a 150-foot extension of Concourse E at BWI and Martin State Airports to allow for future baggage handling work, included site modifications, and building terminal design working closely with MAA’s departments.
This $90 million airport improvement project also encompassed adjacent “connector” corridors to other concourses at the terminal. The Concourse E expansion is part of the on-going effort to provide world class facilities serving an increasing demand for international travel.
To date, Mimar has completed tasks which includes architectural, airfield lighting, airfield signage, and stormwater structures design expertise for the 150’ expansion and renovation of Concourse E.
Architectural Services included the design will include two new permanent departures and arrivals gates (E5 and E10), three new arrivals-only gates, new toilet rooms on the Departures Level, an extension of the Sterile Corridor System to the end of the proposed addition, and a new electrical substation on or below the arrivals level.
Mimar’s Airfield Lighting Design and electrical engineering services include a survey existing lighting, circuits, and light panel boards, modifying the lighting design and revision of the lighting calculations to accommodate improvements to existing Ramped Gate Transition areas, and revision of the light fixture and lighting panel.
Our Signage/ Wayfinding services included survey of existing non-regulatory signage and wayfinding throughout the existing and expanded sterile corridor, departure level and ramped gate transition areas of concourse E, identified signage impacted, and revision of the wayfinding sign schedule. Responsibilities include wayfinding analysis, incorporating style guidelines into new signs, reviewing ADA requirements for newly added areas, coordinating updating existing signage and additional new signage.
Mimar’s civil/Structural site engineering services included preparation of construction documents, stormwater structure design, analysis and detailing of non-precast structures, specification writing and cost estimating.
In addition, Mimar attended design review meetings, prepared field revision documents for review and responded to review comments and made revisions accordingly.
